B Type Line Marking on SH2

With a mainly dry Autumn season, our crews made the most of the conditions by ramping up night shift operations across State Highway 2. Recently, our B type line marking crew has been flat out remarking key areas, including median strip bars, right-hand turn bay arrows, and other short-run markings critical for safe navigation through high-traffic zones.

‘B type’ line marking refers to short sections of road markings such as arrows, stop lines, give way triangles, and stencilled symbols. These markings play a crucial role in guiding traffic safely and clearly — and when done right, they’re barely noticed. But getting them right takes experience, precision, and a steady hand.

Our compact B type tractor makes this job possible. Small and agile, it’s specifically designed to weave between freshly painted lines and strategically placed cones without disturbing the work. This means the crew can move efficiently across the site, navigating through live lanes while ensuring safety for themselves and road users.

This team — Mikie, Israel, and Tui — showed exactly how it’s done. Mikie led the way with the line marking, while Israel and Tui managed traffic awareness, shifted cones, and positioned metal plates to protect the nearby double yellow lines from white overspray. The level of communication and trust between them was impressive to watch. Every movement was coordinated, every crossing timed with precision, and every arrow, bar, and triangle laid down with care.

This level of detail and collaboration is what keeps our road network both compliant and looking sharp. Projects like this highlight the expertise and dedication behind the scenes that help ensure safer journeys for everyone travelling across the region.
